Bangles go way back. From the gleaming gold creations of ancient Rome to this lavishly hand-engraved Victorian beauty, they have encircled the wrists of those who realize that adornment as expression is a necessity, not a luxury. Masterfully hand fabricated in 14K yellow gold (circa 1900) and embellished with a sweeping foliate motif, this bangle is brightened by a quintet of glistening sapphires,* and is a testament to the enduring appeal of an iconic jewel. Total sapphire weight, 1.80 carats. Measures 7 1/2 inches. *Two of the sapphires are from the famed Yogo Gulch area of Montana, USA, where, in 1895, a gold prospector found small blue stones in his sluices. The stones were later identified by renowned mineralogist George Kunz (then working for Tiffany & Co.) as sapphires of unusually high clarity, with a radiant, light-blue color he described as "cornflower blue." Accompanied by a gemological report from the GIA.
