About this piece

Fascinated by nature's critters, including all manner of insects, Victorian jewelers created a fabulous menagerie of bejeweled bugs. This one, somewhere between a dragonfly and a spider (spiderdragon?), has a body that gleams with a .25 carat emerald and a pear-shaped natural pearl, while its slender wings are set with smaller pearls and tipped with round bright green emeralds. An intriguing specimen, it appears to be coming in for a landing—somewhere on you. Total emerald weight, 1.45 carats. Hand fabricated in 15K yellow gold, hence, of British origin. Condition note: one small emerald has a chip on the top.
