Masterfully crafted, this exquisite snake is a Victorian mourning brooch, symbolizing the eternal cycle of life, renewal, and the never-ending bond between the departed and loved ones. Intricately coiled, it is hand engraved and its body is decorated with black enamel, while its eyes are colored with red and orange enamel. A single natural pearl, used for its appropriate and respectful lack of color and sparkle, dangles from its mouth. Hand fabricated in 14K yellow gold (pin stem is base metal), the brooch is engraved on the reverse with, "In Memory Of Frances Giles died Dec. 18. 1841 Aged 33."
