About this piece
We are all aflutter over this enchanting butterfly. Using a technique not commonly seen in mid-century jewelry, plique a jour--meaning 'letting in the daylight'--the wings of this rare species are colored with vibrant transparent enamel in a palette of cobalt blue, rich golden ochre, and burnt orange. Its body gleams with a fiery red-wine colored emerald-cut garnet and sparkles courtesy of three bright old mine-cut diamonds, while lovely light blue sapphires put the twinkle in its eyes. Designed with dynamic dimension (2 1/8 inch wingspan), the intriguing insect appears ready for take-off (the flexible wings move ever so slightly). Delightful indeed. Exquisitely crafted in 18K gold.
