About this piece

Initiate yourself symbolically into the British Order of the Garter* with this delightful Georgian/early-Victorian (circa mid-19th century) adornment, exquisitely engraved and artfully hand fabricated in warmly burnished 18K yellow gold and emblazoned with lucky-seven dusky red collet-set garnets. 1 1/8 inch wide. *The time-honored buckle motif (symbolizing holding a loved one close) originates from the British Order of the Garter. This comes courtesy of Antique Jewelry University (AJU): A popular motif for bracelets, rings and brooches throughout the Georgian and Victorian eras paid homage to the Order of the Garter. Styled after the garters worn by the prestigious recipients of this oldest of British chivalry awards, the motif appeared as the surround for brooches and as central design elements for rings and bracelets. Buckles were prominently featured as a result of their functional as well as decorative role in jewelry design.
