A magnetic stone. Legend has it that in 1703, a parcel of “turmali” arrived at a Dutch lapidary. As children were playing with the stones in the sunlight, they noticed that they were attracting bits of ash and straw like a magnet attracts metal, a characteristic known as pyroelectricity. Upon further investigation--and almost 100 years later--it was determined that all pyroelectric gems were the same mineral: varieties of tourmaline. The 1.02 carat gem that glows atop this arresting estate ring, has a glorious vibrant green color that displays subtle variations of the hue depending on the vantage, and its beauty is enhanced by a dazzling backdrop of diamond-set crescents that create a beveled dome of sparkle.
