Marco Polo's travels during the 13th century took him to the Island of Serendid (today called Sri Lanka), where he laid eyes on sapphires and described them in great detail in his "Book of Marvels." And no wonder. Sapphires are indeed marvelous, and the one in this estate jewel is especially so. The 8.58 carat emerald-cut stone is imbued with an entrancing deep, midnight teal-blue hue, enhanced east and west by pairs of tapered baguettes and a single marquise diamond, all supported by a lustrous platinum shank. A stunning beauty in blue and white. Total diamond weight, .58 carat. Currently ring size 8. GIA Gemological Report states: Basalt related.* No indications of heating. *Basalt-related sapphires are formed in or transported by volcanic basalt rock, often resulting in a higher iron content and darker color.
