About this necklace
Queen Victoria was partial to opals, and no wonder. No other stone so wonderfully displays a myriad of hues, creating a riotous--and ever-changing-- play-of-color from every vantage. This exquisite late-Victorian/early Edwardian jewel has not one, but two of the glorious gems. Like bright round rays, eight super sparkling Swiss-cut diamonds add spots of light around an 8.50 carat oval cabochon opal that dangles from a diamond-frosted, opal-centered bow. The delightful confection suspends from an 18-inch platinum chain by way of a diamond-set bail. Quite charming. Hand fabricated in platinum over 18K gold, circa 1890-1900. Total diamond weight - .83 carat, total opal weight - 8.90 carats.
