About this piece
Whether tracking or retrieving, a good hunting dog knows how to take direction. This sleek pin is fashioned in the form of a hunting whip handle, which is essential to the process. Its angled end is used for opening gates, while a leather thong (the whip) is attached to the loop and used to make a popping noise when cracked that, along with the hunter's voice, corrects the direction of the hounds (it is not used on the dogs). Though you may never wield such a tool, this one, accented with garnets and diamonds, is both a striking ornament and an intriguing conversation piece. Hand fabricated in 14K yellow gold, it hails from the Edwardian era by way of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
