From our Antique Jewelry University regarding the Art Deco style: A desire to eliminate the flowing lines of Art Nouveau and distill designs to their rudimentary geometric essence, thus eliminating seemingly unnecessary ornament, resulted in the cleaner and more rigid lines employed in Art Deco jewelry. Such a desire produced stunningly beautiful jewels like this one that, even with clean lines and no 'unnecessary ornament,' can still have elegant and appealing curves. The top of the ring is domed, creating a full navette shape centered by an icy-white .90 carat European-cut diamond in an octagonal setting, surrounded by shimmering single-cut diamonds. Fine filigree work creates a louvered gallery supported by engraved diamond-set shoulders. Art Deco artistry par excellence. Total diamond weight, 1.15 carats. Die-struck in platinum, circa 1920s-30s, it is currently ring size 6 1/2.
